The Mayfair Theatre is a true Ottawa gem. Not only is the building and its unique architecture recognized by the City of Ottawa as an official heritage building, but it is also a gathering place for film enthusiasts  to enjoy screenings of unique films that won’t be played anywhere else in town!

Built in 1932 during the Great Depression, the Mayfair is a landmark of Bank Street and one of the only remaining independent movie theatres in all of Canada. The Mayfair screens a diverse selection of films—from eye-opening documentaries to old classics, and everything in between— offering a truly classic theatre experience!

Bytowne Cinema

Bytowne Cinema

Located at 325 Rideau Street

Bytowne Cinema is an independent theatre located in the heart of downtown Ottawa on Rideau Street. The Cinema was opened in 1947 by local entrepreneur Hyman Berlin as The Nelson, when admission was just 25 cents!

Nowadays, the Bytowne Cinema is a great spot to catch an independent or foreign film, or check out an event from one of Ottawa’s many film festivals.
