Ottawa's nightlife is not limited to the bars and hockey games - you'll also find many excellent performing arts productions throughout the year, showcasing the talent and passion of the city's arts community.  The capital boasts a variety of productions year-round, with theatrical events of all kinds, for all ages, in multiple languages!


The National Arts Centre is the premier theatrical venue in the country, and showcases a wide range of performing arts such as classical music, English theatre, French theatre, dance, variety, and community programming.

Centrepointe Theatre is alive with artistically and culturally diverse entertainment. You'll be engaged and inspired by local, national and international performing artists who keep the stage aglow almost every night (or day) of the week.

Chamber Theatre Hintonburg specializes in creating theatre in non-traditional venues. Specifically, the taverns and art galleries of historic Hintonburg. Their productions are known for having audiences up close to the action. Text and performance are the predominant focus of their productions.

Theatre Wakefield  Established in 2002, Theatre Wakefield is a dynamic organization that has grown from an early initiative to engage support for community engagement and local business into a driving force for arts and culture in the Lower Gatineau Valley. Focusing on theatre and the cinematic arts, it annually produces main-stage performances, dramatic readings, community heritage animation projects, a wide variety of theatre training workshops, Summer Film Camp, and the Wakefield International Film Festival (WIFF).

A Company of Fools is Ottawa's independent professional Shakespeare company, providing lively programming all year round. A not-for-profit incorporation and a registered charity.

The Savoy Society of Ottawa is a non-profit musical theatre company that produces one of the musical plays of Gilbert and Sullivan in the spring of each year. Since our inception in 1976, The Savoy has donated almost $100,00 to various charities in Ottawa.

The Gladstone Theatre
recently opened to outstanding reviews. The face of theatre in Ottawa is changing and the excitement is palpable! Get ready to Experience Theatre like never before.

The Great Canadian Theatre Company is committed to producing new Canadian works through their play development program. GCTC provides its audience with a balance between works by established playwrights and emerging artists.

Just Kiddin' Theatre delivers family-friendly entertainment to Ottawa's rural South. The company of young actors perform a variety of Canadian plays in the Old Metcalfe Town Hall in Metcalfe, Ontario.

Kanata Theatre is another fine all-volunteer amateur community theatre company, and can be found in Ottawa's West End. With 5 productions each year, the Kanata Theatre is another shining example of Ottawa's love for the performing arts

The Lakeside Players are a non-profit community theatre group with shows including comedy, musicals and dramatic plays. The group tries to showcase one work by a Canadian author or with a Canadian theme in each season.

Linden House Theatre Company aims to produce plays that delight, that amuse and interest, that provoke thought and please the senses with imaginative costumes and set design.

La Nouvelle Scène is Ottawa's acclaimed francophone theatre centre, established through the collaborative work of four local French-language theatre companies: Le Théâtre du Trillium, Cie Vox Théâtre, Théâtre la Catapulte and Théâtre de la Vielle 17. A yearly feast of productions offers something for everyone, with a diverse program including youth theatre, musicals, original modern theatre and multinational productions.

Odyssey Theatre is dedicated to bringing imaginative and unique theatre to Ottawa. Mask work and the arts of the fairground - clown, bouffon, puppetry, dance and pageantry - combine to create magical worlds that have delighted audiences for over 20 years.

Orpheus Musical Theatre Society is North America's longest-running organization of its kind - Orpheus has been entertaining Ottawa theatre audiences with musical performances of all kinds since 1906!

Ottawa Little Theatre is Canada's longest-running community theatre company, built on the passion and support of its members. Ottawa Little Theatre runs 8 productions per year.

Phoenix Players  selects plays for their entertainment value and audience appeal. We produce comedies from the Canadian, American and English repertory as well as mysteries and dramas. They are performing at the Gladstone.

Suzart Productions  is a non-profit musical theatre company specializing in affordable entertainment for the entire family. Suzart's goal is to provide an opportunity for people of all ages, from the young to young at heart, to experience the world of theatre in all of its aspects.

SevenThirty Productions is a professional theatre company specializing in contemporary Irish drama.  All shows are presented at the new Gladstone Theatre!

The Tara Players Theatre of Ottawa is dedicated to live Irish theatre in the capital, normally staging three full-length plays each year.  Since 2006, Tara has performed all productions on the stage of the Arts Court Theatre.

Third Wall Theatre Company began with the intention to create more opportunities for Ottawa artists and to spark the growth of theatre in Ottawa. Today, its refreshed mandate to "engage in the present through the classics" is sure to bring many more great productions to the community.

TotoToo Gay & Lesbian Theatre stages three plays a year at Arts Court Theatre, selecting quality plays that might not otherwise get produced because of their gay/lesbian themes and content. TotoToo received a Community Achievement award in 2007, and has been a great help in raising funds for community events including Capital Pride.

Vision Theatre has a mandate to produce, create and introduce evocative contemporary plays that reflect a fresh perspective - striving to present theatre that matters.  Its contemporary repertoire has challenged conventions and convictions since the turn of the century (2000!)


Check out the Trinity Live Rush program. Students aged 13-29 with a valid student id card can buy last minute tickets to many of the shows at the National Arts Centre. Tickets are $12 and are available from 10:00 am the day before until 6:00 pm the night of the show.
